Siderophore Mediated Metal Uptake by Pseudomonas Fluorescens and Its Comparison to Iron (iii) Chelation
نویسنده
چکیده
Siderophores are iron chelating substances that are also known to bind metals such as Molybdenum and Lead. The pigment produced by P. fluorescens is a siderophore whose ability to bind to different metal ions was investigated in this study. Pigment production was increased in the presence of Sodium, Potassium, Lead, Molybdenum and Cadmium. Siderophores were detected using CAS assay and catechol siderophores by Arnow assay. Peak changes and changes in extinction coefficient values are indicators of complex formation. Maximum difference was observed in siderophore free Iron and Iron-siderophore complexes. Some changes were also noted for siderophoremetal complexes for all metals included in this study. Thus siderophore of P. fluorescens shows a tendency to form complexes with almost all metals tested.

Complex regulation of AprA metalloprotease in Pseudomonas fluorescens M114: evidence for the involvement of iron, the ECF sigma factor, PbrA and pseudobactin M114 siderophore.
In the soil bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens M114, extracellular proteolytic activity and fluorescent siderophore (pseudobactin M114) production were previously shown to be co-ordinately negatively regulated in response to environmental iron levels. An iron-starvation extracytoplasmic function sigma factor, PbrA, required for the transcription of siderophore biosynthetic genes, was also implic...

Bacteria are often iron-limited, and hence produce extracellular iron-scavenging siderophores. A crucial feature of siderophore production is that it can be an altruistic behaviour (individually costly but benefitting neighbouring cells), thus siderophore producers can be invaded by non-producing social 'cheats'. Recent studies have shown that siderophores can also bind other heavy metals (such...
متن کاملGallium toxicity and adaptation in Pseudomonas fluorescens.
When cultured in a defined citrate medium supplemented with 1 mM gallium (III) Pseudomonas fluorescens ATCC 13525 experienced a lag phase of 40 h with no apparent diminution in cellular yield. Following initial uptake of the metal-ligand complex, gallium was secreted in the spent fluid. This lag phase was abolished either by inoculating the medium with gallium adapted cells or by inclusion of i...
متن کاملIron-regulated metabolites produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens WCS374r are not required for eliciting induced systemic resistance against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato in Arabidopsis
The plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens WCS374r produces several iron-regulated metabolites, including the fluorescent siderophore pseudobactin (Psb374), salicylic acid (SA), and pseudomonine (Psm), a siderophore that contains a SA moiety. After purification of Psb374 from culture supernatant of WCS374r, its structure was determined following isoelectrofocusing and tan...
متن کاملSiderophore and Its Applications in the Field of Bioenvironmental Researches
Iron, one of the essential micronutrients, is needed for electron transport and metabolic processes in almost all living organisms. The ferric form (Fe3+) of iron is insoluble in nature and inaccessible at physiological pH (7.35–7.40). Under iron-limited conditions, metal-chelating agents such as siderophores are synthesized by many bacteria and a few fungi. Siderophores have a high affinity fo...
